30 Poems in 30 Days 2022: Baby Turtle (Day 12)

Photo by Christy V. From a local turtle release.

I grow from an egg, that is a collection

My siblings arrive along side me

When it’s time to crawl on the sand

We all take different paces to the sea

It’s that time when we gather data

It’s what we need to remember home

It’s a South Texas beach to remember

For when it’s time, we’ll return for the future

For now, we’re the future, if we survive

Everyone is watching us head into the water

Somehow we all arrive with no harm

Is it the special nets above protecting us?

No time to smile for the camera

It’s time to go, but think of us someday

Protect us every day, we are the future
