30 Poems in 30 Days 2023: I’m The Book Cover (Day 1)

How does one start the next volume

Without looking at the first in the collection?

So much changed in those years and yet

So much as changed now, after 30 years

It’s like everything evolved into lasting trauma

That we all want to grow out of somehow

From South Texas to New York

I’ve written from the heart with passion

No matter how I edit or how much

Precise measure will never be perfect

Only the beautiful messy recipe that

Can be made with understanding

That nothing can be perfect

All you can do is your best

Even if you’re fighting battles

Within that only medical exams

And counseling sessions that

Doctors, nurses, and counselors

Can truly see, but you try anyway

It’s time to start a new volume

Let’s see what comes our way
